We asked for your advice on this month's topic: "How old is your child? How much say do you let your child have in the clothing, electronics and toys you buy for him/her? On what sources do you rely for the latest information on kids' products?"

Here are some of your responses:

  • The best advice I have heard regarding getting dressed is: Instead of asking "what would you like to wear today?" - ask "which outfit would you like to put on, this one, or that one?" Giving them a choice makes them feel that they've made the decision. For information on toys and games - Consumer Reports is great!

  • I have a 17-year-old, a 16-year-ld and an 11-year-old. As far as the clothes go, the teenagers stick to what the other kids are wearing, and I let them choose with limitations such as price and good taste.

  • My daughter is 3, and she does have some say in her clothes…purple, pink and she loves Disney Princess clothes. I let her look at the Toys 'R Us sales flyers and she picks out what she likes. If it's reasonable we'll buy it for her. I am always reading Parents and Parenting Magazine for ideas and product information.

  • I have two girls, so I spend a lot of time shopping. My girls are 9 and almost 15, so they are both very fashion conscious! I let them choose most of their clothing, but I'm a pretty big sucker when it comes to paying the price. I try really hard to sign up for all of the rewards programs offered by the popular teen stores.

  • I have a 7-year-old. I have always been all for letting your child make his/her own decisions. When she was younger I would limit her choices, but now that she is older we discuss options when it comes to topics like clothing, electronics and toys and together we come up with a practical plan. When it comes to making most decisions, I rely on my instinct or the comments of friends.
